About
Why this, why now.
Shima exists because fluency is achievable and most tools aren't designed to produce it.
The problem we saw
Language learning apps have optimised for engagement, not outcomes. Gamification keeps users coming back without producing fluency. Grammar-first methods build knowledge that doesn't transfer to speech.
The result: millions of people who've spent years "learning" a language and still can't hold a conversation. The tools failed them, not the other way around.
What we're building
A tool that focuses entirely on the production gap—the space between understanding a language and being able to speak it. Sentence-level practice, adapted to each learner, with content that sounds like something a real person would actually say.
Shima is built for individuals who want genuine progress and for institutions that need to demonstrate it.
