For institutions
Language training that produces measurable outcomes.
Deploy structured practice content to any cohort. Track per-learner progress. Demonstrate results.
Measurable
Per-learner progress data
Every sentence tracked. Every session logged. Mastery levels, accuracy, time-on-task—exportable data that demonstrates program outcomes to stakeholders.
Configurable
Curriculum-aligned content
Content authored to your program requirements. Domain-specific vocabulary for military, diplomatic, commercial, or academic contexts. Any target language.
Deployable
Any cohort, any scale
Offline-capable iOS app. No internet required during practice. Invite-code enrollment. Cohort management. Works in environments where connectivity is limited or restricted.
Hybrid learning
Better class time starts with better preparation.
Instructor-led sessions are expensive and irreplaceable—but not every minute needs a human in the room. Shima moves repetitive production practice to self-directed sessions so class time can focus on what instructors do best: conversation, correction, cultural context, and motivation.
Before class
Learners practise assigned islands at their own pace. The engine adapts to each learner's weak points. Everyone arrives having produced the target sentences, not just read about them.
During class
Instructors see who struggled with what. Class time shifts from repetitive drilling to guided conversation, error correction, and cultural nuance—the work that requires a human.
After class
Spaced repetition keeps previously learned material active. Learners consolidate what they practised in class without instructor involvement. Progress data flows back to program reporting.
Assessment alignment
Progress that maps to the frameworks you report against.
Shima tracks granular production data—per-sentence mastery, accuracy over time, domain coverage—that can map to institutional assessment frameworks.
Map island completion and oral production mastery to Common European Framework levels (A1–C2)
Track proficiency against NATO standardisation agreement levels for defence language programs
Align practice outcomes to Canadian Language Benchmarks for immigration and settlement programs
Map production data to Interagency Language Roundtable scale for diplomatic and government programs
Define program-specific milestones, coverage targets, and readiness thresholds for any curriculum
Shima is a practice tool, not a certification authority. Assessment mapping provides readiness indicators and coverage reporting—formal proficiency testing remains with accredited bodies.

Security & deployment
Offline-first architecture
All content and audio are stored on-device. Practice sessions require no network connectivity. Progress syncs when a connection is available. Designed for field conditions, restricted networks, and air-gapped environments.
Data sovereignty
Canadian company. Data residency configurable per deployment—Canadian, EU, or other regions on request. No learner data leaves the deployment boundary without explicit configuration.
Privacy and compliance
PIPEDA-compliant data handling. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Per-learner data is scoped to the institutional deployment and exportable on request. SOC 2 readiness review planned prior to institutional deployment.
Editorial content pipeline
All content is expert-authored and editorially reviewed. No material reaches learners without editorial approval. Domain-specific content is developed in consultation with subject matter experts.
Integration
Progress data exportable in standard formats. API available for integration with existing LMS platforms (D2L, Moodle, Canvas) and institutional reporting systems.
